Salt Cellar — I

Description

The smallest of the three cellars, meant to live within arm’s reach of a burner. The body is thrown in Albuquerque from a stoneware clay milled by a small clay works in Zanesville, Ohio, then fired to cone 6 and finished in a matte sand glaze that stops clean at the foot ring. The lid is a walnut disc from a hardwood yard in Marshall, Missouri, pinned off centre so a thumb swings it open and it stays where it lands. It holds about three ounces of coarse salt, stands 2 in. tall and measures 2.5 in. across. The stoneware goes in the dishwasher. Keep the walnut out of it, wipe it dry and rub in a little mineral oil twice a year. Ships in 0–2 business days.
