Description
One slab, not a glue-up. The mesquite comes from a firewood yard in the South Valley that sets its straight offcuts aside for us, so the grain runs the length of the board and the colour moves from pale sapwood at one edge to dark chocolate at the other. Cut to 10 by 7 in. and a full inch thick, about 2.5 lb. A thumb notch is routed into one long edge so it can be lifted off a flat counter without a fingernail. Mesquite is dense, near 2,300 on the Janka scale, and dulls a knife slower than maple. Hand wash, dry on edge, and rub in board oil when the surface goes grey. Never the dishwasher. Ships in 0–2 business days.
