Description
Five pieces at 30 inches: poker, shovel, tongs, brush and an ash rake, on a welded steel bar stand that holds them upright beside the hearth. The handles are wrapped in oxblood latigo, which stays supple in the cold and does not dry out next to a fire the way a stiffer hide will. The steel is left in a raw oiled finish that browns unevenly with heat, darkest where it goes into the coals. The stand has an 11 by 11 inch footprint and stands 32 inches, and the set with the stand weighs 14 pounds 6 ounces. Brush the soot off, wipe the steel, oil it once a season. The latigo asks for nothing but a dry cloth.
