Not a book but a cover you keep. Slate-waxed duck folded to 5 by 8 inches, with two waxed cotton cords down the spine that hold a pair of booklets and let you swap either one without unstitching anything. Two 48-page gridded booklets ship inside, and any standard 5 by 8 refill drops straight in. A latigo loop stitched at the fore-edge takes a carpenter pencil. The back panel has a flat sleeve for a folded receipt or a card. Cut edges on the leather are burnished, and the rivets are solid brass. The wax goes matte with handling. Warm the cover in the sun, rub in more wax, and it seals again.
