Description
The biggest of the three at 1 3/4 inches and 3.1 ounces, and the only one you can take a bearing with. A milled notch and a hairline index on the rim let you line up a landmark and read the card without lifting your eye far off it. The case is solid brass darkened in an ammonia box until it sits between chocolate and green, then waxed by hand; the high points wear back to bright where a thumb rides. It hangs from a 2 inch tab of latigo, stitched and burnished, on a split ring. Re-wax it once a year with any hard paste wax. The dark finish is a patina rather than a coating, so there is nothing on it to chip.
