Saddle Wool Blanket — I

Description

Cut long and narrow on saddle-blanket proportions, which turns out to be the right shape for a bench seat or a bedroll. A mill in Nampa, Idaho, weaves the cloth at 24 ounces to the yard and then fulls it, shrinking the weave until it is dense enough to stand a wind on its own. Both short ends are bound in bridle leather, skived thin and saddle-stitched through the wool. Natural charcoal throughout, no pattern. 32 by 64 inches, 4 pounds. The leather ends want a wipe of oil about once a year. Do not put this one in a machine. Brush it, air it, and hand it to a wool cleaner if it ever needs more than that.
