Merino Trail Socks — III

Description

Terry runs through the whole foot on this pair, not only the sole, in a heavier 68 / 30 / 2 blend of merino, nylon and elastic. It is knit at 168 needles, so the stitch is larger and the sock reads thick in the hand. The leg is a deep 3×1 rib to just under the calf, ten inches from the heel, cut to sit inside a stiff leather boot without folding over. Heel and toe are reinforced with a third strand. This is the pair for cold starts, gravel roads and a boot that has not broken in yet. Machine wash cold, dry low or flat. Full-terry wool felts slightly across the first two washes, which tightens the knit rather than shrinking the sock.
