Description
A single 5 oz square of vegetable-tanned hide from a tannery in St. Joseph, Missouri, with a solid brass snap set at each corner. Snap all four and the sides stand up about an inch, deep enough for keys, a folding knife and whatever came out of a pocket. Unsnap them and it lies flat in a bag, which is the reason for building it this way rather than moulding it. The square is 5 by 5 inches finished, corners rounded, edges burnished. Left undyed, so months of window light will darken it unevenly at first and then even out. Dust it and rub in a little conditioner when it starts to look chalky. Water will spot it.
